Thanks for stopping by. I'm Jenny Gordon and I write magical fiction for adults, both old and young. You can find out more about me and my writing by clicking on the 'Quick Links' on the left. This journal is a space for my ponderings about writing and books. You can friend me, or just lurk if you prefer. Either way, I'd love to have your company and hear from you along the way.

Loved that book too!

Hey Jen,

Been trying to leave comments but not quite sure if I'm doing it right!

I, too, loved TKAM. I read it when I was in my early teens and still remember it so vividly even now. I vaguely remember following it up with the The Road to Memphis, which I believe was along a similar vein.

Well done with reaching the £37K mark. I can't believe it - last time I logged on, you were on 9K! That's a crazy rate of productivity, especially with cupcake breaks!

Keep up the good work. Don't let the 'I'm rubbish at this' demons get to you. You're not! Take a big stick and beat them away!

Much love,
Pip xx

Hi Pip. Well, this comment has certainly arrived safely, so you're doing something right! The snailmail letter also arrived (which was so lovely). I'll reply soon to that. Thanks for the congrats too - the word count is now 52K (the halfway stage) which is even crazier! Trying to keep the cupcake breaks to a minimum ;o) xx

Yay indeed!

Sounds like you had a great day (except for the whole head ache thing). I know I've said it before but WELL DONE YOU! Sx

Hello Jenny

I discovered you while browsing ~ under 'writer' ~ I like what I read.

I'm [livejournal.com profile] readthisandweep ~ perhaps you would like to take a look at my profile & see of you feel we have enough in common to do the friend thing.

Kind regards
Carol

Hi Carol,

Thanks for getting in touch, I'm delighted that you enjoyed my blog. The first two things alone on your profile told me we have enough in common to 'do the friend thing' - a Kate Bush quote and the most amazing picture of a woman and a crow. I love it! Please feel free to 'Friend' away!

Best wishes,

Jenny

Hi, I think I'll try friending you. I've been looking up McKillip on the lj, and when I saw that post about myth and history and a quote from A.S. Byatt I knew I wanted to read more. The reason I'm actually writing here is that I'm from Russia and even if you look me up you won't be able to read anything. So I felt I shoud say smth here.

Hi, Thanks for your email. I'm glad you enjoyed some of the things I've written, and glad that there are fans of McKillip as far away as Russia! Wow! That's pretty amazing - I wonder if she knows. If you haven't already doen so, I'd really recommend reading 'The Bards of Bone Plain' - it's one of my favourites. I look forward to getting to know you.

Best wishes,

Jenny

I've just finished it))) And I can tell that my favourite one is the last one I've read. It's magic and it's ever just a breath away and than fades like a dream of magic. I don't kow how she balances it on the thinnest line between half-forgotten memory, melody, riddle - and magic. Magic that is terrifying and yet undone by the sound of a lover's voice.

Oh and about Russia. The Riddlemaster trilogy was translated into Russian some years ago, but that was it. There are people who loved it but is somehow ended there.

That's the cover art by Anton Lomaev:

Wow! That's gorgeous - thanks so much for sharing. Your English is amazing - just as well too if no more of McKillip's books have been translated into Russian. I wonder how they would sound in your lovely liquid tongue.

Thank you! that's a great compliment)

I think McKillip sounds better in English, Russian does't do justice to her clear, laconic prose. It can be as poetic but it's a bit more long-winded.

"ever just a breath away and than fades like a dream of magic." This is exactly how I feel about her books. I love what you say about the thinnest line between half-forgotten memory, melody, riddle and magic too. She really is the most wonderful of authors. I don't know anyone else who makes me feel quite that way.

Hi Rebecca,

Thanks for swinging by and for 'Friending' me. I'll be away from LJ for a further week or so (deep in the Revision Cave), but I look forward to getting to know you when I return.

Best wishes (and happy writing),

Jenny
