50-Word Vignette #29

Prompt: Pilgrimage

'But it was such a long walk, and you with your arthritic knees.'

'A pilgrimage down memory lane with you is never too far to go. And look on the bright side: if this new cafe was still our kissing gate, we couldn't stop off for tea and sticky buns.'

Anybody else like to join in and write their own? Just post it in the comments. All welcome.

‘Life’s a pilgrimage,’ he says.
Give me strength, she thinks. Next, he’ll be using the ‘J’ word.
‘We’re all on journey.’
‘Like the X-Factor?’
He is clearly irritated.
‘Give the cod philosophy a rest,’ she says.
‘We were discussing a weekend in Margate as opposed to one in Brighton.’

Chaucer had it right!
I don’t know about Eliot
really not so cruel
after the doldrums of March
the snow and rain and mud
the heavy dark clothes
one longs for light and bright
for new makeup
for a flowing flowered scarf
a trip to the mall is a pilgrimage

We walked the last four miles from the bus stop. Sweaty and bedraggled from days on Greyhound, we hugged our guitars, hugged each other, and lay down weeping on the musician's steps. Until someone yelled out the window at us: "His house is across the street!"

The road wound past chalk cliffs, through mists, which glowed with sunlight too diffuse to hint at the hour.

"This," she said, "would be more suitable for the end of the pilgrimage. But we're still days from the shrine."

He shrugged. "Pleasant to be blessed with light on the way."

Thanks. I have three butterfly icons that I use on a fairly regular basis. The one in your icon is gorgeous. I never cease to be amazed by the beauty nature offers.
