My offering this week grew from the same rootstock as #27. What can I say? The theme is an obsession of mine ...

50-Word Vignette #30

Prompt: Sleep

Songlines stretch out across the land.
I sense them all,
And I understand what our ancestors understood;
Feel the pulse of the earth,
And know why they honoured it
With cairns and circles and mounds.

But then I wake, and the knowledge fades.
The power in the land sleeps on.

Anybody else like to join in and write their own? Just post it in the comments. All welcome.

I was alright until I read the word.
Quite so. Exactly how I feel.
Staying up late watching the electioneering. Why would I do that?
Because it’s irresistibly fascinating?
‘Sleep.’ I could so easily go back to bed.
No. I want to work!
I blame the politicians.

I gave the politicians a miss myself. My mind is already made up as to which way I'm voting.

each night she calls to me
day time too
i hear her siren voice
come she whispers
let me sooth you
cease the hurt
refresh your spirit
come her fingers stroke
i am enveloped by memories
sweet dreams
warm sun and sound of waves
longing so intense i ache

"You're not going to pull an all-nighter," she said. He said nothing.

The green light in the corridor outside did not play over the metal; it only sat there, like glowing moss.

"Whatever caused this will last a while. A night of a thousand hours perhaps. You need to sleep."

Rain slaps the window. We stretch out on white sheets, the first mild air of spring stirring us. Yet we linger, waking slowly, knowing everything we need is right here.

You managed to pack a lot into your vignette! The power of centuries.

I'm a big fan of sleeping, too. Nothing beats a nap.

Definitely :O) It was certainly a big shock when my alarm clock went off at silly o'clock this morning!

You really write so well. I too want to write my own stories someday but i guess I still don't know the right mechanics on how to write a good one. But I have composed poems, 50 plus but my friends are not interested in literature so i don't get to share it but I'm keeping them. Thanks for reading my comment if you had. :)

Thank you, that's really kind.

Good luck with your writing, and don't worry if you haven't found the right people to read it yet. The most important thing is to write for yourself, because you love it.
